The 134th arrived in Skagway with the 428th. Like those of the 428th their trucks remained in Seattle. Worse, the 134th arrived without even more essential equipment – arctic clothing, kitchen equipment, tents or bedding.
The stockpiles their commander had been told to expect in Skagway did not exist.
The trucks of the 134th hauled everything required out on the road – fuel, lubricants, food, supplies and soldiers. Their route ran from the railhead at Carcross to regimental supply dumps for both the 93rd and the 340th at Squanga Lake and Morley Bay. The supply road was not an interstate. A round trip, 46 miles, from Carcross to Tagish and back took eight hours.
