Edward graduated from MIT in 1940 with a degree in civil engineering. In 1946 he was a student at Harvard Business School.
Second Lt. Goglia was with Company C with the segregated 97th Engineer Regiment. He and the 97th landed in Valdez, Alaska on 29 April 1942. Three feet of snow covered the ground. The 97th Engineers built the northern section of the Alaska Highway.
Personnel rosters record Second Lt. Goglia in Company C of the 97th Engineers from April 1942 to December 1942. After December 1942, he is no longer listed. The Morning Report of Company C records 2nd Lt. Goglia released from duty as of June 9th 1942 SO 175, Par 4, HQ Whitehorse Alcan Highway.
His father was Nicholas Goglia and the 1940 census records employment as a watchman at a shoe market building. His mother was Lucy Divenuti. Both were born in Italy.
He married Bette Kassel on 26 April 1944 at Cook County, IL.
