The 97th segregated engineer regiment arrived to Valdez on 29 April 1942. There was three feet of snow on the ground. Lt. Geier joined this regiment in April 1943. He was assigned to Company C as a platoon leader. The Alaska Highway was completed in November 1942 and the 97th stayed in Alaska maintaining the highway until July of 1943.
Education: four years high school. Civilian occupation: Butcher. His father was Samuel Geier, born in Austria, and worked as a butcher. His mother was Pauline Engelberg, born in Russia. He married Lillian Poshinsky on 5 February 1942.
