At the end of August the 340th encamped at Upper Rancheria River, 80 miles from Nisutlin Bay. Their truck trail continued another 50 miles to Little Rancheria River where they stopped and built a bridge.
En route to the Little Rancheria, the 340th crossed the Continental Divide near Rancheria Falls. The 93rd was hot on their heels. At the divide, the Liard River flows east and the Swift River flows west. On one side the water flows to the Arctic and on the other side it flows to the Bering Strait.
