Education: Virginia Polytechnic Institute and John Hopkins University, degree in Civil Engineering and ROTC. Civilian occupation: State of Maryland Engineering and Construction chief.
His father was William Ellermeyer McCord (1880–1974), employed as a clerk in a printing office. His mother was Bertha K. Turnt (1884-1970). He married Ruth H. Schultz on 20 April 1946 in Baltimore, MD.
He grew up in the Pimilico area of Baltimore and after graduation from college he worked briefly in Harrisburg, PA. He went on active duty in the Army in 1941 and was discharged in 1946. He worked on the Alaska Highway and later was stationed in Wales during the initial planning of D-Day-the Allied invasion at Normandy.
After D-Day he became a battalion commander for highway and railroad construction in France and Germany. From late 1940s to 1966 he served as resident engineer for the Mystic River Bridge in Boston. Next he was a project engineer on the Delaware Water Gap and then an engineer on the Ohio Turnpike. In the mid 1970’s he was employed as an engineer for the state of Maryland.
His daughter, Barbara Lynn, stated “He was very well respected. His sense of fair play and integrity were things people always commented on. He had a strong work ethic.” He introduced Barbara to baseball and passed on to her his devotion and love for the Baltimore Orioles.
