I`ve driven the Alaska Hwy several times since 1994. There is a small marker above Watson Lake which reads: Max Richardson
39163467
Corp Co F 340 Engineers
Born Oct 10 1918
Died Oct 17 1942
Faith is the Victory
I wonder if this is the same person, maybe Max was a nickname and he was in more than 1 company over his deployment there?
John – I found George Richardson’s name listed in “Lower Post and Freeze” as a member of Company C, but during the construction of the highway soldiers rotated through companies. The 2nd BN morning report for the 340th stated on October 17th that T/5 Max Richardson was killed in an auto accident at Milepost 21 east of Teslin. I do not know if George had the nickname “Max”. Hopefully another viewer of this website could clarify. Thank you very much for the information. Christine McClure
