Alaska Highway, Civil Engineer, 1st BN, Company B. Born: 2 May 1919, PA Died: 27 December 2008, Wisconsin. Buried in Mequon, Wisconsin. He was commissioned from ROTC at Penn State College after graduation in 1942.
Enlisted on 18 May 1942 at Ft. Belvoir, VA and was released 15 January 1946. He served as a Captain from 1950 to 1952 in the Korean War on the staff of the commanding general, Sixth Army HQ.
After the Alcan Highway was completed, Robert and the 93rd Regiment arrived at Chilkoot Barracks, AK on 3 January 1943. He was Company B Platoon Commander from 3 Jan 1943 to 31 Oct 1943. Departed from Chilkoot Barracks on 18 Feb Feb 1943 and arrived at Ft. Randall, Cold Bay, AK. on 27 Feb 1943.
He was designated as Company B Commander at Ft. Randall on 1 Nov 1943. Departed from Ft. Randall on 20 Feb 1944 and arrived at Adak, AK on 25 Feb 1944. Departed from Adak with the unit in June 1944. Promoted from 2nd Lt to 1st Lt on 18 Sept 1943.
In 1940 census his father, Clarence, age 57, was a school teacher. He was born in 1882 and died in 1958. His mother, Mae Stillwagon Brooks, age 54, was a housewife. She was born in 1885 and died in 1961.
Robert married Jane M. Dalglish on 6 March 1943 in Seattle, WA. 1st Lt.Turner G. Timberlake, 93rd Regimental Transporation Officer and his new bride, Helen B. Timberlake, witnessed the ceremony and signed their marriage certificate.
Robert joined Bucyrus Corporation in 1946 and before he retired in 1981, he was the general sale manager of the mining machinery division.
