Born: 13 September 1917, Maryland. Died: 27 October 1970, Fulton county, GA. Enlisted: 18 July 1941, Baltimore, MD.
Education: four years college. Civilian occupation: construction foreman. His father was Thomson King Sr, an electrical engineer (1885-1972). His mother was Katharine Bowie Duckett King (1886-1961) and his brother was Cdr Richard Duckett King (1919-2003).
Lt. King with Company A of the segregated 97th Engineers arrived at Valdez, Alaska on 29 April 1942. Two feet of snow covered the ground. The 97th Regiment built the northern section of the Alaska Highway.
Lt. King was with Company A from April 1942 to July 1943. He was promoted to 1st Lt. in May of 43 and assigned as platoon leader.
