African American, H&S Company, Alaska Highway. Born: 27 December 1916, Mineola, Wood County, Texas. Died: 14 February 1990, Texas. Enlisted: 14 January 1942 at Camp Wolters, Texas and honorable discharge on 10 September 1945, MOS mechanic. He was deployed to Germany for two years after Alaska Highway assignment.
Education: He attended Southside school and graduated from high school. Civilian occupation: In 1940 he was a laborer in a basket factory. His father was George Spencer Walton (1881-1922), a teamster in Box factory, and his mother was LaRissie Jacobs Walton (1894-1967). He married Viola Newsome Walton (1911-2014). He fathered three children: Marvin Ashwell Walton, Jr. born 1938, Howard Ashwell Walton, born 1942 and Rosalind Lee Walton, born 1945. Grandchildren: Mark Darrell Gunter, Marquise Gunter (Great Grandson), Howard Kevin Walton, Damon Todd Walton (Sullivan), Sharon Traylor and Nina Grace Bonet Walton (daughter-in-law).
As a civilian and veteran, he was employed as a master mechanic and welder at the Mineola Machine Shop in Mineloa, Texas. He was a member of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and served the brotherhood and a freemasonry Master Masons, Prince Hall Lodge, Mineola, Texas.
